Just About Everywhere, August 2016—Nuclear fusion may be the most promising energy source that most of us have never heard of.

Scientists first discovered fusion as a potential energy source in the 1930’s and have been quietly working on it ever since. Only recently, given societal pressure to find alternatives to fossil fuels, has fusion started to capture the attention of the media and policymakers.

Seattle, Washington, May 2016—Textile technology startup Evrnu™, and global jeanswear leader Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co)recently announced they have created the world’s first jean made from regenerated post-consumer cotton waste.

Using a new, patent-pending recycling technology, discarded consumer waste is converted into renewable fiber. The prototype, in the form of a pair of iconic Levi’s® 511® jeans, is hoped to represent a future where textile waste is reduced and cotton garments are continually regenerated to create a more sustainable world.

Each year in the U.S. alone, 13.1 million tons of textile waste is created and of this 11 million tons ends up in landfills. Until now, there hasn’t been a viable solution that effectively transforms old clothes into new without compromising quality or strength. With Evrnu technology, discarded cotton clothing can be turned into a new cotton-like fiber, creating new possibilities.

Whatever Happened to President Gore?

Everywhere USA, January 2016—Al Gore, who many people still feel had the presidency stolen from him in 2000, is one of the first recognizable faces of the environmental movement.

Back in 2006, he sent ripples throughout the political world when he released his enormously successful book, An Inconvenient Truth. His environmental leadership dates back much further, however: He was traveling the country warning about the impending climate crisis as far back as the early 1990s, and as Vice-President under Bill Clinton, Gore was a key proponent of U.S. and international participation in the Kyoto Protocol, an ultimately unsuccessful effort to align international efforts on greenhouse gas emissions reductions back in 1997.

Everywhere, The World, January 2016—The image of a polar bear standing on a shrinking iceberg has become an iconic symbol of global warming, yet few of us realize just how important the Arctic’s ice is, wherever we may live on the earth. Researchers consider the Arctic to be an “indicator region” for the rest of the planet, given that even small differences in temperature there can have profound ecosystem impacts and can give us a better idea of the types of problems we can all expect down the road.
