Lenexa, Kansas, October 2016 – Like all the months of the year, each has been set aside for at least one ‘special’ month—usually to point attention to creating a better world for all of us. October is no exception, and was designated years ago as Children’s Health Month.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is closely associated with the words that go out promoting the health and wellness of our children. They’re committed to protecting the environment and public health by providing our children and the communities they live in with cleaner water, cleaner air and an improved quality of life. A strong and healthy America depends on strong and healthy communities. EPA is reinforcing these themes in October as part of Children’s Health Month.

EPA’s mission is to preserve the environment for generations to come and to protect public health in the places where people live, work, learn and play.  Ensuring that children are not exposed to toxins and pollution or other environmental threats in their homes, in their schools, or anywhere else, is central to the agency’s work. Protecting the health of our children is one of this administration’s highest priorities.  And protecting our environment is critical to our children’s health.

EPA is taking steps to ensure that an awareness of children’s unique susceptibility will guide every action the agency takes to protect public health and our environment. Children are so often among the most vulnerable to environmental health risks, and face significant, long-term, and unique threats from environmental toxics. EPA is dedicated to a comprehensive approach to providing children with stronger health protection against those threats.

By protecting children, EPA protects all Americans.
