Trekking for Kids is a 501c3 not for profit that organizes purpose driven treks in the world’s most coveted adventure locations to raise funds for needy orphans living in the areas where the treks take place. The project survives on its own; with little overhead, the cooperation of many volunteers and committed sponsors, all funds raised by the program are spent on the children – with Trekking for Kids project directors on the site to ensure all is well. Literally every step taken for a trek this summer in Spain and Morocco will raise funds for children living in the Islamic Beneficence Orphanage in Skoura, Morocco. Each participant pays his/her own way to take part, and must raise a minimum of $1,000 for the orphanage being sponsored. In addition, Trekkers spend 3-4 days at the targeted orphanages, completing projects and bonding with the children. Columbia-based coordinators of the event were part of a successful trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro last September, which raised thousands for orphans living in the African country of Tanzania. Registration begins that morning at 7:00, in the Village of Cherry Hill, a quaint new shopping and residential area in the southwest part of the city, near the intersection of Chapel Hill Road and Scott Blvd. Entry fee is $15, with directions, timers, mile-markers, arrows, water and refreshments available, with coordinators there to help. Prizes will also be awarded. The 8.00 a.m. start of the race begins in the Village of Cherry Hill, winds around a neighborhood route, and ends back at the village.
