Everywhere, USA, March 2017—You know what a “Mocktail” is, don’t you? It’s a cocktail without booze. Spoken of in a more genteel way, a mocktail is a non-alcoholic drink. Prepared properly, a mocktail offers a wide range of ingredients like fruit juices, veggie juices, spices, herbs, mineral water, ice and sweetener. Whatever you call them, they can be a delicious, refreshing alternative to an alcoholic drink. And for people who don’t want to broadcast that they’re avoiding alcohol, mocktails are the perfect answer.

Washington, D.C., February 2017—In a letter to Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee members in late February, the American Soybean Association (ASA) and the Soyfoods Association of North America (SANA) objected to draft legislation that would restrict the marketing of soymilk.

Referred to as the Dairy Pride Act, this legislation would prohibit the term “milk” from being used with soymilk and soymilk-based products, under the premise that the term “milk” is misleading to consumers.

In particular, a new study published by the American Academy of Neurology joins other studies reporting potential beneficial changes in brain activity related to consuming a Mediterranean-style diet. The Med diet, so-called because of where it came from (countries more or less bordering the Mediterranean Sea) , is high in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and plant-based oils, moderate in amounts of fish, low to moderate amounts of wine and dairy, and low in amounts of poultry and meat.
